Facts Regarding Fleas

Fleas are generally less than three-sixteenth of an inch long with more than 2,400 flea species suspected to exist worldwide. These small pests are capable of transmitting a number of diseases, including epidemic typhus and bubonic plague. Fleas can also carry tapeworms from dogs and rodents occasionally passing them on to humans.

Fleas are attracted to animals by their body heat, movement and the carbon dioxide they exhale. The female flea consumes 15 times its body weight in blood daily and can survive for more than 100 days in which time a pair of fleas and their descendants can produce millions of off-spring.

An interesting fact about Fleas is that they can jump up to 150 times the length of their body, which is the equivalent to a human jumping almost a thousand feet high.
